What temperature should I keep my electronics cabinet/closet below? This depends on the equipment you have, but the general rule of thumb is you don’t want the interior ambient temperature to every get above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Some consider 90 degrees to be the max, and if you can keep the temperature in this range that is great, but our feeling is never let the temperature exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Check with Component manufacture for their suggested maximum temperatures. Is the Pre-set Thermal Controller OK, or should I upgrade to the programmable LED controller? The pre-set controller is fine for a lot of applications. The fans go on at 86-88 and off at 80-81 degrees, and this is a good temperature range. Sometimes in warmer climates the fans may tend to stay on in the warmer months. The LED controller allows you to program when the fans go on, and off, and in the above situation you can program a slightly higher on/off range. Th...

What size fan do I need to cool my cabinet? There are a number of things to consider here, but the main considerations are the size of the cabinet, and how many hot devices will be in the cabinet. First you need to understand that you don’t need to turn your cabinet into a wind tunnel! Gently moving air through and out of the cabinet is all you really need to keep the hot stagnant air away from your expensive electronics. General sizing: Single 80mm fan 1 component up to 3 cubic feet Dual 80mm fans 1-2 components up to 6 cubic feet (no shelves) Single 92mm fan 1-2 components up to 6 cubic feet (no shelves) ...

Q. What are the advantages of using a Vortex A/C or Vortex Cooler compared to a typical enclosure air conditioner? A. Low purchase price, compact size, ease of installation, little to no maintenance, greater reliability, ability to operate in harsh environments, and significantly longer warranty period. Q. What if I just want to keep my enclosure at a slight positive pressure and it is not in a hazardous location? A. If it is desired to cool the enclosure and maintain a slight pressure just to keep out infiltrating dust and dirt (and the enclosure is NOT in a hazardous location), then alternatives are available: One, the Vortex Cooler can be operated continuously without a thermostat, as long as the heat load remains fairly constant. Two, Vortex A/C models are equipped with a purge-air port that, when opened, will allow a small portion of low pressure air to "bleed off" into the enclosure to pressurize it, regardless of whether or not the unit is in the cooling mode ...

Which applications can heat exchangers be used in? As a heat transfer device, it is the function of a heat exchanger to transfer heat as efficiently as possible. This makes it the ultimate device of choice, for instance, when it comes to saving energy by recovering wasted heat and making it useful again. When there is a waste of energy or a heat stream that is not recovered, a heat exchanger can convert that heat stream into something that we can use. Industrial applications may include but are not limited to: oil coolers transmission and engine coolers boiler coolers waste water heat recovery chilled water systems ground water systems condensers and evaporators in refrigeration systems close approach fluid-to-fluid heat transfer Residential applications may include but are not limited to: radiant floor heating pool heaters snow and ice melting domestic hot water central, solar and geothermal heating I have a pool heater, can I use a heat exchanger with...

1. How Does An Air To Air Heat Exchanger Work? An air to air heat exchanger uses a heat pipe to transfer heat from a hot enclosure to the cooler ambient air. The heat pipe is an evacuated tube filled with a special refrigerant liquid. This refrigerant boils when absorbing heat from the hot air in the enclosure. The resultant vapor rises to the top of the tube and is condensed by the cooler ambient air when giving up its heat. The process is continuously repeated. 2. How Much Power Do They Use? A heat pipe uses no electrical energy at all. However, for efficient operation, small fans are required to circulate the air inside the electrical enclosure and to blow outside air over the top of the heat pipe. 3. Can They Cool Below Ambient Temperature? No. An enclosure using an air to air heat exchanger will always be slightly warmer than the surrounding air temperature. The actual differential will depend on the heat load and the capacity of the air to air heat exchanger. 4. How ...

Q. What is the maximum temperature a TEC can heat to? A. For a standard single stage TEC, the maximum temperature it can generate is about 120 Celsius. It can go higher, depending on application, ambient temperatures, and the rest of the assembly, but care should be taken to avoid damage to the TEC if the maximum temp is exceeded. Q. How much heat can a TEC produce? A. The amount of heat produced at the hot side is the sum of the input power and the heat pumped (Qc). Using the two charts (graphs) from the spec sheet, look up the Qc for the input amperage you are giving the TEC and add it to the input power (input amps times input volts). For example, let's say you decide to give a certain TEC 12 volts at 5 amps. This is 60 watts (5 x 12) of input power. Now, looking at the left hand chart ( Qc vs. Amps), you find that the TEC will have a Qc of 85 watts with an input of 5 amps and an expected delta T of 20 degrees. So, the total heat dumped at the hot face is 60 + 85 = 145 wa...
